Body Part - Misc
DEXA SCAN
Exam to determine your bone density (basically how strong your bone is).
DIFFUSION
An MRI technique that helps to characterize tissue in the body this is abnormal. Often an area of ischemia or stroke will appear as a bright spot on diffusion MRI.
DORSAL
Refers to the back side of something.
ECHO
An MRI term used to explain what happens to tissue after it interacts with a radio wave or signal. Different tissue such as bone, fluid, fat, soft tissue have a different echo pattern making them look either bright, dark, or in-between on MR scans.
ECHOGENIC
Appearing “bright” white on ultrasound. Many things can appear bright on ultrasound, including (but not limited to) calcium deposits (i.e. kidney stone or gallstone), air, and fat.
ECTOPIC
Means located in the wrong place. For example, ectopic kidney means kidney is located in the wrong place.
ENHANCEMENT
Causing things to appear “bright” white on CT or MRI when contrast is injected by IV to a patient. Usually a sign of increased blood flow to something. Many cancers can show enhancement, but benign conditions such as infection/inflammation can also show enhancement. Pattern of enhancement can sometimes help Radiologists determine if a mass is benign or cancerous.
EPIDIDYMAL CYST
Sac of fluid/water located within epididymus. Benign condition.
EPIDIDYMIS
Sac of tubes located next to the testicle. They carry sperms from the testicle.
EPIDIDYMITIS
Inflammation/infection of epididymis.
