MICROLOBULATION

This describes tiny bumps on the surface of a mass. This is a descriptor for a more suspicious appearing mass.

MIDDLE CEREBRAL ARTERY

One of the large blood vessels that delivers blood to the brain.  There is a right middle cerebral artery and a left middle cerebral artery.  It is often called the “MCA” for short.

MIDDLE CREBELLAR PEDUNCLE

A part of the brain that connects the base of the brain or “stalk” to the cerebellum.  It is normal.

MIDFOOT

Middle of the foot.

MIDLINE DEVIATION

Also known as midline shift which is a pressure effect on the brain.

MIDLINE SHIFT

Pressure effect in the brain. The brain tissue is pushed to one side.

MILIARY NODULES

Tiny white dots in the lungs on a chest x-ray.  These are usually associated with wide spread tuberculosis or fungal infections.  The term “miliary” comes from the appearance of millet seeds.

MILK OF CALCIUM

Calcium “residue” that collects within small cysts. This is associated with fibrocystic changes of the breast. This is not cancerous. These look like small white objects that are shaped like contact lenses on the MLO or ML views. These look fuzzy dots on the CC view.

MINOR FISSURE

The border between the right upper lobe and right middle lobe of the right lung.  This is only seen in the right lung.

MINOR SALIVARY GLAND

Small salivary gland of the neck.  The parotid and submandibular glands are considered the “major” salivary glands.
