MARROW

Also referred to as “bone marrow”.  An MRI can analyze the bone marrow of your spine.  Normal bone marrow has a characteristic appearance on MRI.  A variety of benign and malignant diseases including trauma can affect the bone marrow.

MASS

A solid piece of tissue. This may represent cancer.

MASTECTOMY

Surgical removal of the breast. This can be complete or partial. This is a surgical treatment for breast cancer.

MASTITIS

Inflammation of the breast or breasts.

MASTOIDITIS

An infection or inflammation of the mastoid air cells.

MASTOIDS

Air containing structure behind the ears that can get infected and full of fluid.

A small cavity space that contains the fibers of the fifth cranial nerve.

Splitting of the sternum during chest surgery, usually a heart surgery.

MEDIAN STERNOTOMY WIRES

Metallic wires used to close up the chest/sternum.
