ENCEPHALOMALACIC

Of or referring to the process of encephalomalacia.

ENCEPHALON

A term used to describe the brain.

ENCEPHALOPATHIC

A term used to describe a patient who has symptoms related to a diseased brain.

ENCEPHALOPATHY

A general term used to describe a process or disease affecting the brain tissue.

END-PLATE

The piece of the vertebral bone located immediately next to the disc.  When the disc is narrowed from arthritis, the end-plates start rubbing on each other and the bone reacts with inflammation and fluid.  Think of arthritis of the spine.

ENDOMETRIAL

Anything related to inner lining of the uterus.

ENDOMETRIUM

Inner lining of uterus where pregnancy starts.

ENDOTRACHEAL TUBE

A tube placed into the trachea.  It is used to help the patient with breathing.  It is connected to a breathing machine.

ENHANCEMENT

Causing things to appear “bright” white on CT or MRI when contrast is injected by IV to a patient. Usually a sign of increased blood flow to something. Many cancers can show enhancement, but benign conditions such as infection/inflammation can also show enhancement. Pattern of enhancement can sometimes help Radiologists determine if a mass is benign or cancerous.

ENHANCING LYMPH NODE

A lymph node that takes up contrast dye appears bright white on CT scan or MRI. It can be a sign of infection/inflammation or cancer.
