EROSIVE OSTEOARTHRITIS
Particular type of arthritis that causes “sea-gull” appearance of the joints at the end of the fingers and toes from central erosions (bony defect in the center of the joint).
EWING’S SARCOMA
Type of bone cancer.
EXOPHYTIC
Means something is “sticking out” beyond the boundary of an area. For example, exophytic mass in the bone means a mass that “sticks out” beyond the edge of the bone.
EXTRAHEPATIC
Outside of the liver. For example, extrahepatic bile duct means portion of the bile duct (draining tubes for gallbladder “juice”) that is located outside of the liver.
FDG
Type of sugar given for PET scans. PET scan shows where the sugar is concentrated. Cancer and infection/inflammation usually require large amount of sugar, allowing PET scans to identify areas of cancer and infection/inflammation.
FDG-avid
Refers to anything that concentrates FDG (type of sugar used for PET scans). Cancer and infection/inflammation are usually FDG-avid.
FEMUR
Long bone in the thigh area.
FIBROUS CORTICAL DEFECT
Non-cancerous growth in the bone.
FIBROUS DYSPLASIA
Non-cancerous growth in the bone.
FOREFOOT
Front of the foot toward the toes.
