YOLK SAC
A normal structure seen next to the baby in the earliest stage of a pregnancy. It is a source of food for the baby. When it is too big, it could be a sign that something is wrong with the pregnancy.
XANTHOGRAMULOMATOUS PYELONEPHRITIS
Rare and serious long-standing infection / inflammation of the kidney that can result in the affected kidney eventually dying. Often seen with a large kidney stone and hydronephrosis (blockage of the draining tubes from the kidney).
WEGENER’S GRANULOMATOSIS
Inflammation of blood vessels to organs. Commonly affected organs include kidneys and lungs.
VILLOUS
“Hairlike” growth.
VENTRAL
Refers to the front or belly side.
VELAMENTOUS
Usually refers to abnormal position of the umbilical cord as it attaches to the placenta. This can result in complications of the pregnancy.
VASCULITIS
Inflammation of blood vessels in our body.
UTERINE
Anything related to uterus.
UROTHELIAL
Inside lining of ureter (tubes that drain urine).
URETERAL
Anything related to the ureter (draining tube from the kidney to the bladder). For example, “ureteral stone” is a kidney stone lodged in the draining tube.
