SUPPURATIVE LYMPH NODES
Infection with pus in the lymph node. If they rupture they can form an abscess collection.
SUPRA
Above something.
SUPRA-SYLVIAN
Located above the sylvian fissure. The sylvian fissure is normal brain anatomy. The radiologist may make reference to this when describing an abnormality.
SUPRAPATELLAR
Above the kneecap bone.
SUPRASELLAR
Located above the sella.
SUPRASPINATUS
Part of rotator cuff that allows movement in the shoulder.
SUPRATENTORIAL
Located above the tentorium of the brain. The tentorium is like a “tent” and separates the top from the bottom half of the brain.
SUSCEPTIBILITY
An area of darkness on MRI that is caused by metal, iron, blood products, or calcium.
SUSCEPTIBILITY (brain)
Small dark spots on the brain usually related to old blood.
SUSCEPTIBILITY ARTIFACT
An MRI term used to describe the black blotches and distortion as a result of metal in the body such as spine or dental hardware. It makes it hard to look at that part of the body.
