LOBAR (brain)
A term used to describe a process related to a part of the brain.
LOBE
A part of the brain. There are many different lobes including the frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes.
LOCULATED
Something that is trapped and not freely moving around. Usually refers to fluid/water which is trapped.
LORDOSIS
Describes the normal curvature of the spine and usually refers to the lumbar or back area. Can also describe the normal curvature of the upper or cervical spine.
LUCENT
Adjective. It describes a "darker" appearance of the lungs.
LUMBAR
The lower back. Is composed of 5 vertebrae.
LUMEN
Inside of a tubular structure. For example, inside of intestine is called lumen.
LUMINAL
Anything related to inside of a tubular structure (see lumen above).
LUMPECTOMY
Surgical removal of a breast mass. This removes only a portion of the breast along with the mass. This can be called "partial mastectomy".
LUNG MARKINGS
Thin white lines that are seen within the lungs on a chest x-ray. These lines represent normal structure of the lungs such as blood vessels, pleura and bronchial walls.
