LAMINECTOMY
A surgical procedure that removes or cuts the lamina. Is usually performed to relieve or improve a spinal stenosis.

LAPAROSCOPIC
Surgery done without making a big cut in your belly. Doctors poke little holes in your belly and perform a surgery using special equipment with cameras through the small holes. Also known as minimally invasive.
LARGE VESSEL
In the brain this refers to the largest blood vessels such as the anterior, middle or posterior cerebral arteries.
LARGE VESSEL DISEASE
A disease affecting the larger blood vessels of the brain. Usually results from a blood clot causing a stroke. Other diseases such as tumor, infection or inflammation can affect the large vessels.
LARYGECTOMY
A surgical procedure that removes the larynx and its contents. It can be complete or partial.
LARYNGOCELE
An air, pus, or fluid filled sac of the larynx. Can result from excessive coughing, playing a wind instrument, or glass blowing. They are usually benign and can be treated with surgery or laser therapy.
LARYNX
A structure in the neck containing the vocal cords that allow us to speak.
LATERAL
Outer part of something.
LATERAL CHEST X-RAY
Chest x-ray that is taken from the side of the patient. This is one of the two standard chest x-rays taken (1. PA chest x-ray and 2. Lateral chest x-ray)
