HYPERDENSE
Appears bright (white) on CT. This can help Radiologists characterize the abnormality on CT.
HYPERECHOIC
Appears bright (white) on ultrasound. This can help Radiologists characterize the abnormality on ultrasound.
HYPEREMIA
High or increased blood flow. Can be seen with multiple conditions including infection, inflammation, cancer, etc.
HYPERINFLATION
Over-inflated lungs. This can be seen with COPD/emphysema.
HYPERINTENSE
An MRI term used to describe organ tissue that is bright. Often the term is followed by the sequence used. For example, your report may state “hyperintense T2 signal” which means that the tissue looks bright on T2 sequences.
HYPERLUCENT LUNGS
Lungs appearing darker than normal on a chest x-ray. This can be seen in emphysema/COPD.
HYPEROSTOSIS
A thickening of the skull.
HYPEROSTOSIS FRONTALIS INTERNA
Extra bone growth in the front part of the skull. This is not cancerous.
HYPERPLASIA
Something that is growing faster or bigger than normal.
