EDEMA (chest)
State of being saturated with fluid. For example, when you have a swollen ankle after twisting it, there is ankle edema.
EGG SHELL CALCIFICATION
These look like white ovals or circles on a mammogram. These are likely not cancerous. These can be associated with cysts or fat necrosis. These are also known as "rim calcifications".
ELEVATION OF HEMIDIAPHRAGM
Unusually high position of the hemidiaphragm. This can be caused by paralysis of the hemidiaphragm from nerve injury. It can also be a normal anatomy variant.
EMBOLIC
Refers to a clot in a blood vessel that has originated from a source or region different from the area of clot. For example, the clot may originate from the heart and then move to the blood vessels of the brain. This is considered embolic.
EMBOLIC INFARCT
A stroke that has occurred as a result of an embolism.
EMBOLISM

EMPHYSEMATOUS (abdomen)
Means to contain gas/air. Typically related to infection/ inflammation. For example, emphysematous cholecystitis means inflammation of the gallbladder containing gas/air. Usually a sign of serious infection/ inflammation.
EMPHYSEMATOUS CHANGES
“Darker” appearance of the lungs on chest x-ray or chest CT that is typical for lungs with emphysema.
EMPYEMA
An abscess (pocket of pus) within the pleural space.
ENCEPHALITIS
An infection/inflammation of the brain tissue.
