DIFFUSE CALCIFICATIONS
These are calcification that are scattered everywhere in the breast.
DIFFUSION
An MRI technique that helps to characterize tissue in the body this is abnormal. Often an area of ischemia or stroke will appear as a bright spot on diffusion MRI.
DIFFUSION RESTRICTION
Is also called “restricted diffusion” and refers to a stroke on MRI.
DILITATION
Dilated or “enlarged”.
DISC
The piece of tissue between the spinal bones, or vertebrae. It provides the "cushion" between bones and is affected by arthritis.
DISC BULGE
A wide, long outpouching of the disc. Think of your santa claus' belly sqeezing into a tight belt!
DISC EXTRUSION
A disc that is longer than it is wide. Think of toothpaste squeezing out of the tube.
DISC OSTEOPHYTE COMPLEX
Usually refers to arthritis in the cervical (neck) or thoracic (mid-back) region. Is composed of both disc material and bone spurs. Often it is difficult to tell the difference between bone and disc on MRI. This can cause stenosis or narrowing of the spinal canal and could compress or impinge the spinal cord.
DISC PROTRUSION
A focal outpouching of the disc usually as wide as it is long. It can point towards the center of the spinal canal or towards the sides where the nerves are located.
DISC SPACE
Space between two spine bones, where disc is located.
