DESCENDING AORTA
Part of the aorta that is located in the back of the chest. Blood within the descending aorta flows towards the feet.
DESMOID
Cancerous growth consisting of connective tissue.
DEVELOPMENTAL VENOUS ANOMALY (DVA)
Is a type of vascular anomaly or “malformation” consisting of an abnormal draining vein in the brain. It is considered benign and of no consequence. They can be associated with cavernous angiomas.
DEXA SCAN
Exam to determine your bone density (basically how strong your bone is).
DEXTROCONVEX
A curvature of the spine to the right. "Dextro" is Latin for right. Is a type of scoliosis.
DIAPHRAGM
A thin muscle that separates the chest and abdomen. It is made up of the right hemidiaphragm and the left hemidiaphragm. It is a major muscle for breathing.

Anything related to diaphysis (middle part of a long bone).
DIAPHYSIS
Middle part of a long bone.
DIASTASIS
Separation of something.
DIFFUSE AXONAL INURY
A large, global or “diffuse” injury of the axonal system of the brain. Usually occurs as a result of whiplash injury in a motor vehicle accident.
